On not liking things, and that being A-OK!

I couldn’t fall back asleep the other night, so here’s a cleaned up version of the twitterpations that I threw out bright and early. Mostly nearly 5 am Sunday morning random thoughts, served hot & fresh y’all. I’m one of those folks who gets really annoyed when people tell me I “HAVE” to watch/read/do a thing. It turns me off said thing. Take for example Jessica Jones. Haven’t seen it, I had only a passing interest in it to begin with.

However I grew weary of think pieces, as well as the idea of me not watching it makes me deficient in my feminism, or loses fandom cred. A 100 tweet essay on why really won’t help your case either. This isn’t about me bucking the trend and not liking a thing tats popular to be edgy. It’s about me feeling like I am not allowed to have little to no interest in popular thing without being judged as wanting somehow.

There’s plenty of popular things I’m just meh on or because people have pulled the “you don’t like thing, what’s wrong with you!” card on me so often, I’ve gone from meh to active dislike of said thing. Undertale is on that short list of not liking because people not only went on about it but acted as if you were the devil if you didn’t like it. Also constant untagged tumblr posts about it helps to fuel my dislike of it. Unjust get really frustrated with popular things and fandom response to people who aren’t into it too. So yeah, TL;DR I’m that curmudgeon that usually dislikes popular things because everyone tells me I HAVE to like them or else.

You know what will get me to watch/read/play/do a thing? Seeing someone else enjoy it & say why, no expectation for you to like it too. That’s why I got Witcher 3 after seeing @tauriqmoosa talk about it. I was meh on Witcher 2 but damn me 3 is a GOTY for me. Seeing his tweets & reading his articles on it piqued my curiosity and I’m happy I took the leap. Yeah not enough POC but it’s so good. So yeah, you want me to have any interest I thing you’re into? Tell me why, not that I’m wrong for lack of interest in it.
